audition information

We typically hold auditions at the beginning of the fall semester, and occasionally at the beginning of the spring semester. They are usually in person, but there are circumstances where online auditions may be more appropriate. Auditions take place over one or two days, with callbacks being the day after the last day of auditions. We will have a designated time slot where we will be in Dixon, and you can come in at any time during that slot and sing for us!

This is what will be required at your audition:

  1. The verse and chorus of a song of your choosing (Preferably not musical theater - we typically don’t sing any musical theater songs)

  2. Scales (This is just to test your range! We will provide you with piano accompaniment to sing along with) 

  3. [Optional] Beatboxing (30 seconds of any beatboxing you can do! We have a few beatboxers in the group already who would LOVE to hear, learn from, and teach anyone who wants to beatbox!)

There is no official sight-reading element in our auditions, but you will be asked to learn two of our songs during callbacks. If you don’t know how to read music, don’t let that be a barrier! As long as you can pick up the music quickly and accurately, then you are Green Envy material. We want you to succeed so ask away!

The last thing we want to mention is that being part of Green Envy is a time commitment - we have rehearsals for two hours, twice a week, and the better we are the more gigs we will have throughout the semester (some of our favorites are admissions gigs, holiday parties, and singing with touring groups from other schools!). Keep this in mind when you are thinking about auditioning!
